The Justice and Advocacy Committee of the Dunbar United Methodist Church is purposed with the job of empowering those experiencing social issues that negatively impact their lives; to bridge the gap between identifying injustice and achieving a solution. This Lent, our committee is sponsoring The Jubilee Project: Unburdened by Grace to address the overwhelming burden of medical debt.
Medical debt is the number one cause of bankruptcy in the U.S. Through the Jubilee Project, we want to fulfill our biblical directive to “bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ” by helping folks experience freedom from debt related to medical concerns. We are partnering with Undue Medical Debt, a (501)(c)3 nonprofit organization that buys medical debt at a discount, pinpointing the debt of those most in need.
We cannot do this alone. Please help us make a difference in the lives of folks throughout Appalachia. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to allow forgiveness of over $1 million in medical debt for our neighbors throughout West Virginia and Kentucky.
Donations can be made here or by check made payable to Dunbar UMC with a note for “Jubilee Project”. Donations can be mailed to DUMC, 1401 Myers Avenue, Dunbar, WV 25064. Donations of any amount will be appreciated.
For every $1 donated over $100 in medical debt is able to be forgiven. Please help us help others.
